If you think about it, the 2003 information conversations may have


taken place because of the informal conversations that occurred in the '90s. Remember all of '90s stuff went down right around the time the BEFC was set to renew the commitments of the participating schools (I think '97 or '98). I was a student at VT between '96-'00 so information from the various media outlets wasn't as readily available as it is today. I do remember the CT doing an article about the SEC possibility and the BEFC commitment coming up for renewal which I found to be very interesting. I think I did find 1 external source that mentioned it, but I can't find it now. The newspaper may have even purged it from its electronic archival system to free up space. Then when the next CT came out, the main story was that VT is joining the Big East as a full member. Basically I put 2 and 2 together and reached the conclusion that VT used the SEC as leverage to get what it wanted from the Big East.
