Oh, I see..so the HC is just a subset of the whole school's giving program.
That would explain its inefficiency and lack of modern marketing. The HC stinks at small donor relations and outreach, everyone knows this yet nothing gets done about it. Maybe they are too busy debating personal pronoun preferences to take marketing classes :P

Even though I am not a fan of playing a conference game in Week 1
I understand the reason for it and can live with it. I just hope the ACC makes sure every team has its fair share of Week 1 conference games instead of using those spots on a limited number of schools. It is bad enough that VT has to play FSU on Labor Day Night this year, but to schedule VT to play another conference foe next year seems a little unfair.

Also, I found it a little odd that VT vs. BC was a possibility given that VT is scheduled to play Furman on Aug. 31. Then again, maybe Swofford/the ACC thinks VT can handle playing Furman on Aug. 31 and BC on Sept 1 or Sept 2 since the 1899 Sewanee Tigers did it multiple times while playing with only 13 players and the defense only gave up 10 points all season (12 game schedule). #SMH at Swofford

Yeah, even if it's not in ND's hands, I imagine ESPN/ABC would want to keep
it on the main networks. I can possibly see ND vs a low profile ACC team on the network, though.

May not be permanent
This will help drive viewership in the inaugural ACCN season, as well as generate new cable subscriptions, which is the name of the game. If this is hugely successful in season one they may not think it will be necessary thereafter. I guess they can judge by how many cord cutters we see at the end of the first season. If there are a substantial number of cord cutters they will need to repeat this type of scheduling to reel them back in.

Sure sounds like the schools have agreed to the High Profile games to me.
It sure would drive their revenue up and since the SEC and B1G have been reluctant to do so, sure seems like a great way to launch the ACC/ESPN Channel to me.

PS ND getting a share of the network looks a lot smarter now. Getting their ACC away games on the ACC/ESPN network makes a lot of "cents" to me.

It wouldn't come down to ND's decision, it would be ESPN/ABC who decide
I don't think many ND/ACC games will be moved from ABC or ESPN and placed on the ACC Network.

There may be a few such games, but not against Virginia Tech, Clemson, FSU, Louisville, etc..

We may see ND at Wake, for instance, on the Network.

I didn’t use BTN because I assume ESPN has rights
BTN is a Fox property and I can only assume ESPN has picks before them. But with SECN and ACCN, ESPN has all rights (except for the one CBS SEC game which is the best rights deal in sports). Yeah, I remember that SC/A&M game. Think that was on a Thursday prior to the first football Saturday which utilized a new/unique football time window which is now littered with some really strange P5/FCS games.

I agree. The "huge" SEC game they started their network with was SC-aTm.
Those are middlin' programs, for the most part. At least as far as popularity goes. I could see something similar. Maybe VT vs GT, or similar. Nice matchup, but nothing that will take away from the big network. BTN will show the elites occasionally, but it's always against a cupcake. That boosts their ratings for those games. Rutgers-PSU was the most watched college game on any network in NYC a few years ago. We could have a Clemson-Wake, or whoever. Basically, the Raycom games on ACCN.

Agree on b-ball. The network almost can't lose there.

They've been OBSESSED with VT for years over there. Didn't they have a
countdown clock to the VT game under London. I think their jealous single-minded focus on all things VT is part of the reason they choke against us so much. It's just another ACC game for VT players.

The way I look at it, if ND gets a "full share" of the ACCN pie...
without joining the ACC in football, they should make a "full share" contribution to the network.

But we still have another full season without an ACC cable channel to make those decisions.

I think Swoff is overstating the “high profile games” to ACCN
as well. If it were that simple, you’d see huge games on SECN. You don’t because of the lost ad revenue and the cable/satellite providers would not have it (they paid for X and part of X taken away). You do see some pretty decent games on SECN because of the depth of the league. If the ACC stacks conference games in the early weeks when P5s are eating cupcakes, you’d get several pretty good matchups. To kick of the channel I wouldn’t doubt they’d get bold with a couple high profile games but that is not sustainable. Basketball is another story — depth of the league will necessitate some great games going to ACCN.
