I liked the Fuente hire on paper too....
But if I knew he was a complete introvert and didn’t do much to create tight atmosphere amongst his players, or be more open to fans and media, I’d have had my reservations. My post is more about what we need moving forward not looking back.

Clemson is definitely feeling the effects of the pandemic.
As with anything, time can be a great thing or a serious deterrent.

Well we'll need to cipher thru this
I'm not seeing anything on a war chest I thought we had and some of the surplus was taken up by increase in ADept personnel costs

I know that a certain amount of funds are reserved for the near term debt
service. I’m not sure what that number is now, but at one time it was $6m. This is mandated by the state, I don’t think they are going to use that money unless the shit really hits the fan.

Historically the most of conference and NCAA distributions have been made near the end of June. I believe that number was ~ $30m this past June. So they should have around $35m-$40m in reserves at the end of June 2020, of which probably $35m can be used to balance the budget. I’m just guessing at the numbers, but I still think they are looking at borrowing $30m-$35m for FY 20. Hope I’m wrong on the high side.

I’ve heard the Keep Jumping Fund has been doing ok, so maybe that will help. If firing Fu happens, it could get very nasty on the financial end if donors don’t fund the buyout.

at 9 million a year will be a bad contract shortly if things don't turn

Yeah....it could really be a big bite.
That’s why travel has been minimized to the extent possible. VT is in a good geographic area to minimize travel and other costs better than a lot of schools. Schools that have been spending money like it grows on trees are cutting sports and severing staff and looking at much larger debt to balance out things.

We're on the same page
But I'm not sure the war chest can be spent as normal revenue or to balance the budget without extracurricular involvement.
But it would interesting to know exactly what's available for what's needed

My guess is that they will have to borrow around $30-$35 million,
exclusive of any non-funded buyouts of football coaches - if we go that route. TV revenue and the amount of any NCAA distributions will determine that final number.

It’s irresponsible to expose his
Team (and by extension—FSU’s team) to a player who was symptomatic—I would certainly send someone on my staff who is symptomatic home —and so would everyone I know.

He is trying to deflect blame instead of taking responsibility for screwing up. HE is the one who cost Clemson $300K nobody else

A “war chest” is defined as reserves. Did not say it was revenue.
But you may have to use your “available” reserves to balance your budget. In this case your other financial resources for balancing your budget are available reserves and debt (most likely short-term borrowing from the school or outside sources like banks).

It's simple math. And reserves are not revenue which was the original point
We've had two years of approx 2.8 million surplus each. Even that was counted in this year revenue that still leaves 15 million lost from Tix.
And the reserves and are not part of thee AD budget that the dept can just dip into willy nilly

Yeah, that’s probably a reasonable analogy.
He didn’t recruit well, “possibly” deliberately once A&M offered him the job a year before he left. And took his “recruits” with him some of which weren’t very good at all......might have done us a favor with those.

Nothing is altruistic with Pittino. He's angling for what works best for him. If Iona was fine, he'd be all for pressing forward now.

Clearwater Softball Tournament cancelled for 2021
No real shocker but officially reported by Justin's World of Softball today.

This tournament is considered one of softball’s premier multi-team events and gives invited teams great exposure.

Although the Hokies weren't scheduled to play in the tournament this year, I personally think they would have had a good chance next year. unfortunately, the postponement means that the 2 ACC teams that had been invited for this year - Clemson and Notre Dame, will be invited next year.

Don't know if that would work for us.
When they get to the bubble, they need to get tested and isolate for a set period of time before they can practice. I'm pretty sure they plan to leave for Mohegan Sun not long after the game on Wednesday.

There are more TBD this year than usual
I think a whole lot of that has to do with a lot of teams don't have their schedules even finalized yet. So TV hasn't had a chance to start picking games that it can show. But yeah at this point probably half of them would normally have a solid tip time, or if a weeknight game, two possible tip-off times, one being 7:00 the other being at 9:00.

I'm hoping ESPN just hasn't updated their programming schedule yet.
Looking at ACC's website (theacc.com), seems they only have conference games listed so far.
