WVU was a member of the Atlantic 10 at the time, so I can understand


the close proximity to the other members for the other sports be more appealing to them. It's ironic that WVU rejected the Metro for that reason only to find itself in that same boat as a member of the Big XII. If the Metro had found the right carrot (i.e. BCS status or bowl tie-in with the Orange Bowl), then WVU may have reconsidered the offer. If the carrot was large enough, then it might even been enough to add Pitt and WVU. Remember everyone has a price, you just have to find it. Plus, if the Metro had formed a football conference, then it may have discouraged the Big East from forming the BEFC. If the BEFC had never formed and schools started to realize that Independents were being left out in the cold, then the Metro might suddenly look more appealing to them. Even if the BEFC had formed (assuming without VT and Miami), then it may not have achieved BCS status which could have made the Metro more appealing for WVU and/or Pitt.
