I agree with your "DC reeks of desperation" comment...

It seems like it would be more for show than anything else. It's like the ACC saying, "Hey, Look at us! We're the new ACC." Unfortunately, the ACC will have the same membership issues that it had when it was located in Greensboro. Meanwhile in Birmingham, the SEC just added two more large football-first state universities that fit their successful model.
