The ACC's "relationship" with Notre Dame will probably lead to a future
divorce within the conference and maybe even end the ACC's position as a "power conference." As long as Notre Dame remains a non-football member, the ACC will never see an increase in pay from their media contract that some (maybe even most) schools (and their fans) desire. As a result, it means the ACC will fall even further behind the Big Ten and SEC which won't sit well with some ACC members.
What incentive does Clemson, FSU, L'ville, Miami, maybe NC State, and maybe VT have to remain in the ACC when the GOR and media contract come up for renew? Getting a required home-home series against Notre Dame isn't worth it because most on the list could easily get Notre Dame to agree to a home-home series without the ACC having to step in. While L'ville, NC State, and VT could probably live without playing another home-home series with Notre Dame or only playing Notre Dame in neutral location.
