Oh I realize that the East would have an AAC feel to it.


However, I was thinking that if the Big XII added some of those AAC schools, who historically are good in bball, then it might benefit the ACC indirectly. I was thinking that ESPN could end up giving the ACC and Big XII similar deals since both conferences would be more valuable in basketball than in football. Even though it won't be as much as the Big Ten or SEC, it would at least give the conference and their schools a steady revenue stream while the football programs play catch-up. The assumption would be that by the time the contract comes up for renewal, then the football programs should be a lot stronger and have a bigger influence on the contract value.

Also, by having 2 conferences that are perceived to be stronger in basketball than football, then it will be tougher to single one out as the "red headed stepchild" of the bunch. At this point the ACC and Big XII are probably starting to realize that it appears they may have missed the window to get a SEC-like deal. So now it may be more a question of is something better than nothing (in terms of at least getting the ball rolling in any direction)?
