On the surface I do agree that Big XII doesn't have a lot of good


options when it comes to namebrand value. However, if ESPN gets to the point where it either has to drop the LHN or rebrand it to a conference network, then I would change for the Big XII. Now I am assuming that ESPN and Big XII could decide to change the model that is used for implementing the rebranded network. If the change occurs, then they may not be as worried about the actual rating and more worried about having members in states/regions with a lot of TV subscribers. The logic being that the conference network would be packaged in with an existing bundle so the conference and schools could still get paid regardless if people watch the channel or not.

The point of laying the foundation above is that it might prompt the Big XII to expand to 18 members.

West Division: 9 schools west of the Mississippi River
East Division: WVU, UConn, ECU, UCF, USF, Cincy, Memphis, and 2 more schools east of the Mississippi

If the East Division is spread out wide enough, then the conference network could be packaged in every major market east of the Mississippi River even though the conference may not have a member physically located in that market.
