Exactly. Fans tend to only look at this issue in terms of the impact

any decision will have on football and (men's) basketball because that is the only sports fan really care about. While the college presidents and AD are looking at the issue in terms of how it will impact all of their sports. You can bet the Big Ten schools and Arizona State will care about how the decision will impact their M/W ice hockey programs. Likewise, the same is true for the Pac-12 schools that sponsor M/W water polo. While the ACC and Big Ten will care how the decision will impact their M/W lacrosse programs.

I suspect if enough schools believe leaving the NCAA to form their own association will have a negative impact on enough of their non-revenue sports, then they decide to remain in the NCAA and final an alternative solution.

I agree with you that football has a good chance of being treated differently because of how much money is associated with the sport and because there are no other sports that come close to offering the same number of athletic scholarships. If football does end up being the only sport to leave the NCAA, then the schools will have to be careful how they treat that sport. Otherwise, it could open the door to where student-athletes in the other sports want to receive the same treatment/benefits as what the football players are now receiving from the schools.
