It will be though because everyone realizes that if the power five leave
the NCAA, then it will have a dramatic impact on their non-revenue sports particularly when a lot of the non-revenue sports are depended upon the non-power conferences to have enough participating teams. Remember the college presidents and ADs are looking at the situation and how it will impact all of their sports. Not just the impact it will have on football and (men's) basketball. Only the fans and media personalities are looking at it from that perspective because those are the only sports that matter to them.
Do you honestly see the ACC (minus BC and Notre Dame), Big XII, Pac-12 (minus Arizona State), and the SEC agree to add M/W ice hockey to appease the Big Ten and the 3 remaining power conference schools who currently sponsor the sport? Do you honestly see the ACC, Big Ten, Big XII, and SEC agree to add M/W water polo to appease the Pac-12 schools that currently sponsor the sport? If the power conferences decide not to sponsor those sports, then you can bet those schools will want to continue sponsoring those sports and find themselves in a real pickle because they won't be allowed to remain in the NCAA. Likewise, there won't be enough power conference schools, who currently sponsor the sport, to provide those teams with any meaningful season. The same situation applies to a bunch of other non-revenue sports. I singled out those 2 sports specifically because if the power conference schools agree to add one or both sports, then it will require them to either build a new facility for the sport, renovate an existing facility to meet the sport's requirements, or find a nearby facility that meets the requirements to lease.
