reasons why football should be outside the NCAA, I could see the schools decide to keep football in the NCAA at the 11th hour because the risk going down the other path is too great.

I know most people won't like this idea because it will be the end of college athletics as we know it. Given the events that have already transpired, I could see some schools make the tough decision to spin their athletic department into a separate private entity so this new entity has autonomy to decide which sports they will go pro in. The model already exists in the world (i.e. Club Deportivo Universidad Católica, Club Universidad de Chile, Club Deportivo Universidad de Concepción, etc.), so the schools won't be re-inventing the wheel. The pro clubs could lease the existing athletic facilities from the school. Heck the schools could even remain the primary sponsor for the pro teams, so they continue receiving the exposure associated with athletics.

Unfortunately, I am not sure there is a way for the schools to avoid this outcome now that Pandora's box has been opened via the combination of COA, NIL, and SCOTUS ruling. Even if the schools decide to eliminate athletic scholarships and the COA, that still may not be enough given the other "benefits" student-athletes would still receive from the school (i.e. access to facilities and services available only to the student-athletes).
