Both are the same classification though (DI)

My point is that VHSL decided to go from 3 division levels to 6 division levels. The same thing could happen at the collegiate level within the NCAA.

6A = former DI-FBS P5 schools
5A = former DI-FBS G5 schools + any former P5 schools that don't want to compete in 6A
4A = some of the former DI-FCS schools
AAA = the rest of the DI-FCS schools + some of the former DII schools
AA = the rest of the DII schools + some of the former DIII schools
A = the rest of the DIII schools

If 6A only has 60 or so members, then there may be no reason to continue with the bowl games. Instead, the schools may opt to go with the playoff route because it is more financially beneficial to everyone.
