If we had 25 teams per year capable of winning, a tournament is fine.

We have that in men's basketball. About 25 teams are capable of winning the Championship. Of course the NCAA holds a tournament of 68, but only about 25 could win.

In football, only about 2 are capable of winning. That's it. There is no point in holding any tournament to waste everyone's time or to make the top 2 play 3 games to get to the big event. That's why 4 is more than enough in the CFP.

Leave the Bowl Games alone. They pay well, and television gets to show them too.
