I agree with you, and that puts us back where we started.


The best answer is 4 with the highest rated 4 conference champions out of the 10 as the 4. Therefore the quarterfinals are those 4 Conference Championship Games. Make the conferences compete for this rather than lock in P4 or P5.

The SEC will want what we have now instead, which is top 4 chosen by committee and ESPN hyping a new poll every Tuesday starting around last week of October. ESPN can put together an hour show each week to analyze the poll each week and the Committee's work. The Committee Chair will trot out each week to answer questions about the popularity contest. People like Herbstreet can pontificate for the show.

I find it perfectly boring, but they run a show each week. The College Football Gameday has been going for almost 30 years now. So someone is watching.
