Why would there only be one......


playoff spot available? Even right now they are getting two in a lot of years and with OU in the mix it would have been 3 in some years with the current 4 team set up. IF, and that's a big IF, it stays at 4 I doubt the number decreases and IF it were to go to 8 or 12 it probably goes to 3. I doubt ESPN is going to up its bid for the playoff if you go to 4 conference champs, that in reality is less than what it presently has and assumes the ACC and PAC12 each produce a playoff worthy squad every year. To really understand the calculus it is necessary to break out playoff money from conference TV money and even then it may not be complete without knowing how bowl(if they exist) revenue factors in. The first piece is where the CFP might go and what, if any, conference limitations might be imposed. Not sure without more pieces of the puzzle it is possible yet to say who would be screwed. There is a significant part of the game remaining to be played. I think what Finebaum was saying with respect to the playoff is the SEC will get their spot(s) with the current projected conference lineup.
