The GOR could end sooner if certain conditions are met
Regardless of when the current GOR ends and the new one begins, there is nothing preventing the ACC from modifying the new GOR or its Constitution and Bylaws at any time change the requirements in order to remain a member of the ACC. For example, the ACC (aka the schools) could decide to change the Constitution and Bylaws requiring members to be full participants in all sports sponsored by the ACC in order to become a member of the conference. Meaning Notre Dame football would have to play a full conference schedule if Notre Dame wishes to continue being a member of the ACC. If Notre Dame doesn't agree to the new terms, then the ACC would have no choice but to terminate its relationship with Notre Dame. The point is that the current relationship may no longer be what is in the ACC's "best interest."
Also, keep in mind that Notre Dame wouldn't be the only school on the chopping blocks. BC, Duke, Wake, Pitt, Syracuse, and maybe even Miami could be on the chopping blocks too for other reasons. If the ACC decided to implement football stadium requirements as a condition of membership, then the list could include GT, UVA, and even VT. Hence why I said the ACC may have to make some hard and difficult decisions that won't be popular with everyone if the conference wants to improve its situation. Just because a decision may not be popular doesn't mean the decision doesn't need to be made in order to try to save the ACC. If the ACC doesn't make the tough decisions, then it is possible (maybe even likely) the ACC won't exist as a power conference when the GOR and media contract expires on June 30, 2036.
I could see a couple of the football schools decide to either leave the ACC for an existing conference or form a new power conference. If the right schools decide to leave first, then others will eventually leave too because they view the ACC as a sinking ship. If a group of schools want to form a new (power) conference, then they will need to satisfy the following NCAA bylaws in order to receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournaments: Bylaw 18.5.1, Bylaw 20.02.5.1, and Bylaw 31.3.4.2. Click on the link if you want to see my post which spells out the bylaws in detail. The Great West Conference was ultimately doomed because it could never satisfy those requirements.
