I think there ought to be savings plans of some kind. Lord knows the IRS
is out of control, but if we have a system like that - where rules are made to influence behavior - we should be able to tolerate the same stuff in health care.
If you contribute to a health savings plan, like you contribute to a 401k, you can pull the money out in an emergency. But there will be a price to be paid. People will think twice about going to the ER with the flu when they know they are on the hook for it with their own money.
My last post on this. But I will say, in all seriousness, that insurance really is for chumps. I've had it, and I've gone without it. I paid cash for one of my children to be born. And it felt great to do it. But I guess I'm a "rugged individual" throw back.
