The basic fundamental flaw of our system is as follows
The consumer is disconnected from the real price of delivering the goods and services associated to healthcare. Thus, free market economics are not allowed to intervene and drive prices down. Case and point as follows: If you go to a doctor for a physical using your insurance, you will never know exactly how much a service will cost until AFTER you get the explanation of benefits and other bills that the scammers didn't pay for. If you ask the people at the desk BEFORE they perform the service you will always get a round about answer. Ive often tried asking them to tell me how much something will cost if I use insurance, and how much it will cost if I don't; I always get a nasty response, like I said a curse word or something.
Bottom line is this; LASIK for example is a medical procedure for which prices have normalized purely because of allowing free market economics to work. Why can't we do the same for regular health care? Why do we need the insurance companies?
