I love the B1G Matchups... they have some historic programs


Look at each of the match-ups individually:

* Ohio State - how can any VT fan not have loved it. The upset in the Shoe was epic and the excitement at Lane on Labor Day night... WOW!

* Michigan - another blue blood program. The Big House. And we have a little unresolved issue about the Sugar Bowl...

* Penn State - maybe on the fringe of college football royalty, but certainly a team that has plenty of teams wanting to play them. How many years have they been avoiding us? Another 100K+ stadium in the Beaver...

* Wisconsin - Camp Randall is the older stadium on the country. Rabid fans...

I'm guessing when VT fans complain about playing the B1G teams, it's not about the teams above, but the following teams. Still, once one gets over the idea that not every OOC opponent will be college football royalty, there are still interesting reasons to play.

* Maryland - former ACC team, border state. Lots of VT fans in NOVA and DC area. We invade Byrd and they will not invade Lane. Perfect!

* Rutgers - former B1G rival... kind of. They don't move the needle much, but we do have a history with them.

* Purdue - maybe it's just me, but I like playing teams we have never played before. Purdue is one of those teams that everyone knows about... probably because they played ND every year and the Irish fans talked them up before beating them. This match-up may have been a nod to President Sands.

I like 6 of the 7 match-ups... only "meh" from me is Rutgers. And I REALLY like the top 4 match-ups. While we are at it... bring on Sparty and the Huskers (again). Iowa would be kinda fun too.
