I don't believe VT is scheduling all these OOC games against

Big Ten schools just to improve VT's chances of getting into the conference some day. Although I wouldn't be shocked if a report later comes to support that position. However, if you look at VT's OOC schedule going back to the Big East days, then I do find it "interesting" that VT had only 2 Big Ten school (Illinois which was later cancelled due to Illinois citing "competitive reasons") and the infamous VT-Wisky series that seems to never want to take place. The only other home-home series VT had lined up with a SEC school was Auburn. However, that series was cancelled because Auburn's AD said (paraphrase) "it needed to play 7 home games every year." Kansas State is the only other home-home series with a P5 conference that VT had and was eventually cancelled.

Even though we will never find out, I do wonder what other schools VT had discussions with during that time and the reason nothing ever materialized from those discussions. It may help shed light on what has changed to help explain why (perceptually speaking) VT is "suddenly" getting all these home-home series with Big Ten schools.
