I agree that Notre Dame shouldn't receive special treatment

unless it is representing the DI-FBS Independent schools. However, to say that Notre Dame should be treated exactly the same as BYU is a flawed logic when you compare the history of both football programs. BYU's history as an independent is a lot shorter than Notre Dame's history, BYU has fewer national championships than Notre Dame, BYU may even have a smaller fan base than Notre Dame, and any of metric you want to use to compare the two football programs.
