I don't get where the ACC has to salvage a football reputation.

The ACC had 2 of the 4 teams in the CFP last season. That's a whole lot more than the PAC12 or Big XII had. Out of the last 12 teams that have won the College Football National Championship, 3 are in the ACC (Miami, Florida State, Clemson). Albeit 7 will now be in the SEC (Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Tennessee, Texas & Oklahoma). Then 1 is in the Big Ten (Ohio State). Then 1 is in the PAC12 (USC).

The ACC needs for Miami and FSU to return to prominence. The Big Ten and PAC12 are now 1 trick ponies. And if Ohio State had not hired Urban Meyer lord knows where the B1G would be.

Regarding the basketball and UConn, I think we can accomplish that with Cincinnati as well as have better football.
