Even if the ACC doubled or tripled its footprint, it still may not be

enough to salvage its football reputation or change the perception that the ACC is a basketball conference living in a football world. Adding Notre Dame as a football member would help some, but that ship will never dock so no reason to leave that option on the table. If you look at how long ESPN dragged its feet before launching the ACCN and how content ESPN appears to be with shutting down the LHN, I am not sure I would assume that ESPN wouldn't do the same with the ACCN if it thought it was the "right business decision" to make at the time. Heck ESPN may even see the ACCN and LHN in the same light.

If ESPN has any interest in preserving the ACC, then it will probably be as the premier basketball conference. If the ACC does end up expanding, then I wouldn't be surprised if ESPN insists that UConn be one of the teams. I guess WVU could be #16 since it is good in basketball and an effort to try to appease the "football schools" who aren't happy with the ACC adding UConn. Unfortunately, the ACC suffers from the same problem that the Big East 1.0 suffered from; the members can't rally behind 1 common goal. Since the ACC member could be divided into 2 camps (basketball vs. football), will it go with a similar divorce that the Big East went through a few years ago?
