If you are saying that playing @VT and @UVA gives Notre Dame
access to Washington, DC and FSU gives Notre Dame access to Jacksonville, then couldn't you say the same thing about the SEC?
New Orleans - LSU
Baton Rouge - LSU *23rd largest city in the Southeast as of 2015
Houston - TAMU
Dallas - TAMU
Nashville - Vandy and Tenn
Cincy - Kentucky
Lexington - Kentucky *14th largest city in the Southeast as of 2015
St. Louis - Mizzou
Birmingham - Alabama and Auburn *25th largest city in the Southeast as of 2015
Montgomery - Alabama and Auburn *27th largest city in the Southeast as of 2015
Jacksonville - Florida
Tampa/St Pete - Florida
Charlotte - Georgia and South Carolina
I did find your comment about the growth of the Southeast interesting and Notre Dame's desire to tap into it more. If that trend of growth in the Southeast continues, then I would assume in the future that new "big markets," which may only be small or medium size now, will exist. I guess it is even possible these new "big markets" could surpass existing "big markets" (i.e. Pittsburgh) in the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic.
Now I don't think Notre Dame would join the SEC, but that is because I think there would be other issues at play. It will be interesting to see how "desirable" the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic will be in the future if there is consistent growth in Southeast.
