UConn probably has more counter arguments in football though

1. UConn tore down its on campus stadium (Memorial Stadium) so it could build a $40 million basketball practice facility (Uconn Basketball Champions Center) = helps to reinforce the perception that UConn is a "basketball school" which makes it tougher to move the needle in football.

2. The state built (and owns) UConn's current football stadium (Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field) = UConn may have limitations if it wants to expand the stadium because other organizations currently use it.

3. Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field capacity is 40,642 (compared to Milan Puskar Stadium's capacity of 60,000)

4. Rentschler Field is located in the middle of nowhere near East Hartford (approximately 25 miles away from UConn's campus) next to a private airport (club?). This is the best aerial image I could find of the stadium to give you an idea of how isolated it is from everything. Even though it may remind people of Lane (given their perception of SWVA), at least Lane is on campus and within walking distance to Blacksburg.

5. UConn averages somewhere between 28K-32K in home attendance the last 5 years or so. Not sure there fans of the other ACC schools living in NYC Metro Area that would be willing to travel to East Hartford for a football game. UConn's home games could mirror Duke's, Wake's, or BC's home game. It has been at least 1 (maybe 2 or even 3) decade(s) since WVU averaged those figures for home games.

Don't get me wrong I have nothing personal against UConn joining the ACC. However, the ACC is already viewed as a "basketball conference." Since football is currently driving the bus, the ACC needs to add more "football schools" to help improve its image in the sport. Realistically it is unlikely that UConn will be able to compete right away for divisions and conference titles. So there is a good possibility that UConn could end up become another cellar dweller in football. Whereas WVU should be competing for division/conference titles most years and finish no worse than middle of the pack.
