football tradition. For example, the PAC, SEC and B1G each have about a dozen Heismans (at the time that the trophy was awarded). The ACC has 3 (all by FSU which joined in 1992). The Big 8 and SWC have close to a half-dozen each.

I'm not saying this to dump on the ACC, I'm just saying the pedigree isn't there and it will take time to build. Moreover, the ACC is weaker at the top than the other heavyweights. If you look at the top 5 programs in the B1G and the SEC, they've got a big edge. And let's face it, these teams are the ones that America wants to see.

I understand the "deadbeat" issue. But to me, it is a minor one since all conferences have them (if you even accept the term).

One solution is to do all that we can to get ND on board fulltime
Another is to go after Texas and Oklahoma.
A third is to simply stop worrying about it and understand this is a marathon and not a sprint.
A fourth is to contract so that the few quality programs that we have can play one another every year.
And of course another is for top ACC programs to shop around and bring the ACC to an end.
