Not that I agree with the OP, but your post made me think of a question

so I am going to throw it out there and see what people think. Every P5 conference has members that are publicly perceived to be cellar dwellers in athletics. Is it better/worse/neutral for a conference to have the same school (or group of schools) take up the cellar dweller residency? The alternative would be for a conference to have more parody where more schools make a trip to the cellar, but don't stay long enough to take up residency. Is it better/worse/neutral for a conference to have more parody?

As far as the OP goes, it seems to be rooted in the first question. While those cellar dwellers may not be deadbeats in the grand scheme of things. Athletically they may be viewed as "deadbeats" because they rarely improve enough to completely escape the cellar. If they do leave the cellar, then it is only for a short period of time because they have a magical season (or couple of seasons) before returning to reality.

While I don't agree that is a good way to defining the value of a program. I can understand why people may approach it that way when trying to determine a value of a conference network.
