Maybe the ACC doesn't see lucrative TV contracts as a top


priority for the conference. It is possible that the ACC's top priority is to have its reputation for academics and research to be on par or greater than the Ivy League. Since TV contracts tend to be driven by basketball or football, the conference may prefer to focus being more well-rounded instead of being strong in only 1 or both of the revenue sports. Right now football is a bigger factor on TV contracts and expansion moves. In 20 years it may shift to basketball. It is possible that the ACC doesn't want the current trends to dictate the decisions it makes. Instead the conference may prefer to make decisions that can weather the ebb and flow between the revenue sports.

I guess my point is that all these things could be in the conference's long-term best interest. However, it doesn't mean the conference will see these decisions as being financially rewarding. Does the conference want to jump all over the place trying to chase the almighty dollar or does it want to remain tried-and-true?
