Completely agree that it doesn't make sense for football, too many players

Basketball is small enough that some schools could take advantage of it, I'm sure there are schools out there who have deep pockets and don't care about football so they may use their dollars to get another small edge in basketball.

Could easily see Duke, UVa, Syracuse, Kansas, etc making moves like that. Teams that struggle to win it all because of one and dones start buying developmental guys on the cheap. It's a win / win for the players too, get a couple years with that level of resourcing and access to that education.

I went to grad school with a walk-on who played minutes for Syracuse during their 2013 final four run and was a better player than the UNC walk-ons and D1 lacrosse guys we played pickup with at school. He was easily good enough to earn a scholarship at a mid-major but stayed a walk-on at Syracause because of the career connections in NYC. A little NIL money could make a lot more guys like that choose the walk-on route, especially at schools with great academic reputations.

Luke Maye walked on at UNC even though he was a top 150 recruit, I bet we see a lot more of that with NIL.
