Responses to you two main questions


You ask why would Aluma take the deal.
- if he likes VT and is not interested in another school or coach
- if his only options are get a corporate job or go to Euro league that may not pay well for a rookie, or the VT deal
- if VT NIL money could pay enough (maybe $200k+) to make it financially worth it to stay vs other options (scholarship money for one year is minimal when looking at the big picture)
- if KA sees VT as the best option to make money, have fun, and win games next year
There are a lot of potential reasons. There is no simple yes/no answer for this.

For VT, it’s not about just starting 5 or the 13th player. If you do it right, you have instant depth with 7 experienced players. And this would give you time to develop the young talent. Right now, if KA sand JM leave, then VT will have almost no bench depth (based on current roster). So what you could do is have a better #6-9. Imagine being like UNC and Duke where the bench has 3-4 starter level players. That’s what we ultimately want isn’t it?

I realize this has a lot of variables and speculation. No worries if we disagree. Just wanted to think out loud on the topic.
