I can think of one reason it could grow
and it's simply that the situation is relatable and understandable for most Americans.
Germany tried to take over Europe and exterminate a race. That's understandable. Japan attacked us. That's understandable. Iraq invaded Kuwait and Kuwait asked for the world's help. That's understandable. But I'm not sure your average American ever really grasped why we were in Korea, Vietnam, or Afghanistan. Those were all complex quagmires with no clear objectives to achieve.
But Russia still lingers in many American's minds as the Big Bad Evil Guy from the Cold War. Them invading another country because a megalomaniac leader wants control of their resources is pretty straightforward. There is really no way to spin this act other than an act of aggression by one sovereign nation against another.
If you want the public's support for military action, it helps a lot if the reason for it and the goals of it are understandable. In this case, they are.
