I test rode a Domane a couple years ago, and didn't like it.

There was too much flex in the frame for my liking. You'll want to test ride it, especially accelerating or going up hills where you torque it the most. I have the Emonda for my primary road bike. Carbon frames should be more forgiving than Al on longer rides. But they're also a little more fragile, so you'll want to consider a couple things. The frame will last longer if stored indoors where it isn't exposed to temperature fluctuations. You can't use a hitch rack that clamps to the top bar. Don't store it where you constantly have other bikes rubbing against it. If you carry a frame mounted pump, where do you attach it, etc.

I also have an older Trek 520 (steel frame) I use as my commuter. It's a softer ride than my road bike (35mm tires at 70psi vs 23mm at 120psi). But I also prefer to ride it in colder weather, because it's a lot less likely to get a flat. So I'm less likely to be sitting on the side of the road on a cold windy day fixing a flat with freezing hands. Trek's current 520 complete bike uses some pretty low level components though, so you may want to think about upgrades. Obviously its a little slower than my road bike, so consider that if you are riding in a group you want to keep up with.

As Vippie mentioned, you should plan on buying a new saddle that fits your sit bones. It may take some experimentation to get it right.
