If you are really going to spend some money...


Go see a bike fitter before you buy the bike. Tell him what you are looking to do, and which bikes fit best. He'll measure you, then custom fit whatever bike you purchase. Will cost a couple of hundred dollars but if you are going to be spending over $1k its money well spent.
