Yes, I think it is important


I've been told that twice by Hospice personnel and done it twice. Once with my brother to tell him that we were all here and how much we loved him and how proud we were of how bravely he had faced his cancer.

The second time was with my 96 year old father in law(WWII Marine Corps vet). I told him that is was now my turn to take care of the family and to rest easy, that I had the watch now. In one of his final moments of lucidity, he looked and me and said " I think I did pretty good, considering where I started". Yes you did, Pop.

I believe they want to know that we are ready and will be OK. They are ready to move on and need that final reassurance from us.

It is a hard thing to do, but I believe it needs to be done.
