nursing facilities for a few months. Heart and mind were healthy, he just kept getting infections, doctors could never really give us an answer. Doctor told us we'd just have to let him go at some point. They basically stopped sustaining him and stuck him in a room to die at the hospital. We expected him to pass within a day or two. He was scared as hell of dying and lasted over a week. Thinking he was unconscious I went back to work just waiting on a phone call that never came. Finally I went back to the hospital and was overwhelmed, my wife and I slept in the room holding his hand and talking to him all night. It was an awful sight, his eyes were set in his head and he was dried up.

The next morning my dad shows up and tells him it's ok to go be with Mama. I walk out of the room and he passes. I like to think he was hanging on for me to spend some last few moments. I definitely believe you have some control at the end. Kinda like you're being pulled towards something and can let go of life when you choose.
