While it may be a nuisance, if we didn't have inspections we'd have a lot more unsafe cars on the road. Most people would never change their brake pads until the state inspectors tell them it's time.
Those driving a newer car are pretty safe from getting a ticket for an expired inspection sticker. It's not like cops are solely looking for expired stickers. I've driven 4 months w/an expired sticker. I've even been pulled w/an expired sticker but the cop didn't notice it. Even if you get a ticket they will usually drop the charge if you show the car was inspected on your court date. The State's objective for inspections is to have safe cars on the road not make money off of inspections.
