It is either about the money...all of the money...or it isn't

it is disingenuous to say that sports money counts but other economic and academic factors affected by sports do not.

When we talk about football being the driver in college sports $, and no one is debating that, one has to monetize the interest in the activity. If it is as simple as go find the most fans available, then you go get the team with the most fans. But if the media partner can't monetize that fan interest, then adding that team is a losing proposition.

The ACC gets nothing from WVU (or UConn, or Temple, or Navy, etc.) swag so how much they buy and how often they wear it is irrelevant unless it can be tied to conference revenue. Whatever team would be added, has to carry its weight...all of its weight.

So can/would WVU bring at least its $/academic share to the table? If so, how? Make a cogent case. Base it on more than "You can't drive through that state and not see WVU bumperstickers, flags, T-shirts, ball caps." Provide some numbers, trends, articles...whatever.

WVU was arguably a bigger rival than UVA when I was at VT. I would love to play them again. But it is not clear cut that they would be a profitable add to the conference.
