What a fluff opinion piece that was. No research, no attempt to understand what drives ratings, how universities or conferences behave, and certainly no attempt to justify the magic #64.

Rather, every conference should be viewed through the prism of trying to improve the lot of all its members, with some input from networks and consultants. The means to do that make some more predatory than others; but only temporarily. No university administration wants to deal with the peer and public fallout from these upheavals any more than necessary.
