If you think college football
will ever be a truly amateur sport again, you’re wrong. It is a big business.
If the players are so replaceable (I.e, a dime a dozen), then why the fervor over recruiting? Aren’t the players all replaceable? But we know that isn’t the case. There may be many athletes who want a coveted spot but not many who are good enough to have them.
Top recruits are the ones coveted. Short supply, heavy demand. I’m all for them leveraging their value to their advantage. Given how backwards the system is and how much it benefits schools and coaches, I’m happy to see the kids make money.
You may be thrilled your kid just gets to play college sports and that’s fine too — o one will make your kid seek more than that.
P5 football has changed A LOT in 30 years. There is no going back.
I’m not selling an oppressor-oppressed narrative. I’m simply in favor of supporting players looking out for their interests.
