I do see why you say that. At the same time, doesn't the Big Ten
want "compelling match-ups?" Is Ohio State vs. UMD compelling? What about Michigan vs. Rutgers?
Speaking of history, most people may not know that Michigan and Minnesota have a "rivalry" and that they play for the Little Brown Jug. I could see Michigan end up with Minnesota as its 3rd protected game because of that reason. Likewise, Ohio State has a rivalry with Illinois and they play for the Illibuck Trophy. I could see Illinois end up being Ohio State's 3rd team for that same reason. If either happens, then that frees up "West" teams to be paired with "East" teams. That may or may not be a good thing depending on the person's point of view.
