Development is what VT has to do in most sports because we are not a sports mecca for the recruits with the kind of talent it take to be top 15-20 teams. Not to say we are blacklisted by the high quality athlete, or that we will never get any, just that there are enough higher profile teams out there to snap the all up. Good recruits don't need VT or 100 or more other schools like or somewhat like us at all. We are not one coach away from being a desired destination, unless there is some sea change, maybe like us paying more than anyone else under the guise of NIL.

CMY is doing what has to be done to at least make VT competitive in the ACC.

The formula is used over and over with success at some points with others being up and down. The consistent winning is talent. The up and down can be the coaches building a pipeline where they are playing a lot of less talented but fully grown men who are playing at the highest level they ever will play. That and add the occasional real talent they either uncover or just get and the once in a while foray into the top 10, can occur.
