What I meant was ...
When I looked at the 2012 - 2015 VA top 25 rankings, I found that the contribution percentages were at 100% for the seven four stars, 58% for the thirty-six four stars and 74% for the fifty-three three star recruits. I considered a player to be a contributor when they achieved significant yards/tackles/starts over their college career. I would consider the recruiting rankings to be accurate/reliable if 90-95% of the VA top 25 were contributors. I don't consider the recruiting rankings to be accurate/reliable since only the seven five star recruits contributed over the 90-95% threshold.
Recruiting rankings of individual recruits are usually determined by the number of college scholarship offers and the quality of the programs making the offers. There are also camps that bolster a recruit's ranking and there is also some mystery over how kids earn their stars. I assert that the recruits are offered scholarships so they can contribute to the success of the programs and I decided to measure their contributions by looking at the yards/tackles/starts. I believe only one percent of college players are drafted by the NFL so being drafted shows that the player achieved a certain level of success on the college level. Guys sitting on the bench don't get drafted.
