Ah my mistake for misunderstanding your point about Vandy


and you are right that Vandy would probably be the only breather on the schedule.

WRT the game @Hawai'i, a lot of teams don't do it now because they want to keep the Conference Championship Weekend date open in case they are playing a game that day. If VT was going to do a game @Hawai'i, then it would probably have to be scheduled and agreed upon during the regular season. Even Hawai'i may not be open to the idea because they could always qualify for the MWC Championship Game. Based on https://fbschedules.com/ncaa/hawaii/, here are some future opponents who decided to make the trip (schools are all east of the Mississippi).

2022: Vandy (08/27), WKU (09/03) & Duquesne (09/17)
2023: Albany (09/09)
2028: Fordham (09/02)

Interestingly enough, Hawai'i has agreed to play a few teams east of the Mississippi at their stadium.

2022: @Michigan (09/10)
2023: @Vandy (08/26) to complete the home-home series

In looking at Hawai'i's previous schedules, here are some interesting years.

2019: Central Arkansas (09/21) & Army (12/01)
2018: Navy (09/01), @Army (09/15), Duquesne (09/22)
2017: @UMass (08/26) & Western Carolina (09/02)
2016: @Michigan (09/03) & UT-Martin (09/10)
2015: @Ohio St (09/12), @Wisc (09/26), UL-Monroe (11/28)
2014: No. Iowa (09/13)

I included C. Arkansas, UL-M, and No. Iowa because of the dates.
