That would basically give us a P4. Then set aside five slots for the top five conference champs (including the best independent).

That leaves three slots for repeats within the same conference. That would work out well for the ACC, since those three would almost always go to the SEC, B1G and the ACC.

This could work out well, especially if you used the Rose, Orange and Sugar bowls for the first round, slotting the traditional teams into each (plus another bowl for the fourth one).

The same conference repeats should be forced to meet each other in the semis, should they both win, to keep same conference opponents out of the national championship.

I'd be OK with that. It is good for the ACC and ND, and it preserves the bowl system very well. I'd feel better about it, if the Alliance took in every Big 12 team, so none are left behind. But really the SEC should take in whoever is left, not us, since they created this mess (it would be fun to force them to do that, or be limited to one CFP team).
