Then ensure the only people invited are the top four ranked conference champions. That way when you have a UCF (or ND) that's undefeated and ranked in the top four, they're in, otherwise you have no more than one entry from any conference.

This needs to be set in granite for the next decade (i.e. long after Big TX and OK join the SEC).

If USC, UCLA, Oregon and another P12 team decide to join the B1X, their chance of making the playoff becomes miniscule.

I never have liked this subjective "four best teams" approach, no matter who is on the bowl selection committee.
