The NCAA determines who is a P5 level member and who is a G5 level. There is no indication that will change. All that we can safely assume at this point is that the TV media broadcast package will be financially different for the Big-12. So, far that is all that has happened. Texas and Oklahoma are leaving, being forced to pay through nose to do it and ESPN has said the 40.9 million this year would be reduced by 14 million to offset Texas and Oklahoma, leaving 26.9 per member in the future. That figure is likely to wobble, but I think much of that wobble has to do with how the Big-12 lets Texas and Oklahoma leave and for what cost.

Texas and Oklahoma got mad because ESPN would not pay them SEC level media rights and of course ESPN still owed and still owes Texas 160 million in back payments for the LHN. When you start digging into the details, what there are so far, it looks bizarre.

BYU is getting roughly 10 million per year, each of the AAC members is pulling in about 8.

As for the ACC and Pac-12...why would they implode. No one is going any where. These Super Duper conferences with 20, 30 or more members is Talking Head conjecture. No one from a position of authority in any conference is stating that.

I do believe we are headed to a 16 super conference format and right now I expect there to be 6 conferences participating. The talks leading up to the CFP-12 predicated its structure on 6 conferences participating. At the time that was the P5 plus the AAC in some fashion, one slots if eligible yada yada yada.

With the Big-12 poised to absorb roughly 6 members of the AAC before it is over, the ACC will be make up those losses rom CUSA and not be part of that picture. It will then just be the P5 and Notre Dame, which was always the plan.

Nothing has changed. I do not get the dire hand wringing by the masses.
