They are being told if they don’t do it, they will be left behind, which

unfortunately is true. So they have a fiduciary responsibility to save their Universities and therefore even if they don’t want to hurt the people/institutions they have relationships with, they feel the greater priority is to make sure the one they are leading doesn’t miss out.

Same as when Virginia Tech left the Big East for the ACC and when West Virginia left the Big East for the Big 12.
