It seems the only way to make the SEC less brutal is to lure teams away.

That's not going to happen. Why would a top-tier SEC team leave? I really don't see your point. They would have to take a huge pay cut and lose football prestige. Once again, the political system thwarting the SEC expansion is our best bet, which is a bad bet to have to rely on.

If most of the SEC weren't for the difficulty upgrade why would we be having the announcements. They wouldn't be announcing expansion unless they had a general consensus among their members.
