All virtual was better than hybrid

My second grader is now in person 2 days per week. We are in the second week of this hybrid model. I'm still not sure if it is the teacher who can't manage it or if it is the process that the school has setup. But it is relying far too much on technology learning (even when in person) and they are using the zoom calls mostly for social.

My daughter is still learning a lot because my wife stays home and she used to be an elementary teacher. But the other parents that chat by text or facebook are clearly needing help and that back channel support structure seems to be the strongest aspect of this.

From what I understand, so many teacher tricks and methods (developed over many years of experience) are all based on having kids in the room, not having parents in the room (as they are virtually), and on being able to integrate multiple methods of learning. Virtual and hybrid models just don't allow for that and I understand the frustration from everyone including the schools.

Personally, I'm a fan of plan D where we basically do home schooling for a year (in coordination with the school). My wife is tempted but is giving it one more week to see the covid data and how the school/teacher adjusts the approach.
