Just had a similar experience with our Choc Lab last month

She was 11 years 4 months.
Best companion and family dog you could ever hope for.
Had a ruptured tumor on her kidney, vet said there was nothing we could do! Still wagged her tail up until the end.
Still hurts but it was the right thing to let her go!
