I’ve been through this. Here are my thoughts.

1. You are responsible for the dog. It’s a biblical thing. Dominion.
2. Dogs have no sense of a future. It is all about right now. You are not depriving them of anything.
3. Ask yourself, does your dog still experience joy?
4. My philosophy is “a little too soon” is better than “a little too late”. It is extremely difficult to time your decision perfectly. This was my way of showing my dog love.
5. Ask your vet what they would do if it was their dog.
